- Intro to Process-Based Welding
-
This introduction to process-based welding prepares participants to begin their exploration of MIG, TIG and/or Stick welding. The course reviews general lab and welding process safety in preparation for work on cutting processes and grinding. This course is a great introduction for community members interested in exploring process-based welding and professionals wanting hands-on experience in process-based welding.
What we are going to do hands on in shop:
Using oxy fuel torch to cut and welding various thicknesses of carbon steel Using grinder to clean and cut material
If time permits using the skills practiced above, make something to take home
Note: Materials are included in the price of this course; however, participants are required to bring their own gear. Here is the list of required equipment that students must bring with them to the Process Based Welding class:
Student equipment needed:
Long pants or jeans- no synthetic materials
Long sleeve FR shirt or welding jacket Leather boots no synthetic material Z87 rated safety glasses-clear
- if you wear glasses you will need OTG (over the glasses) safety glasses or impact prescription glasses
Leather gloves-MIG style welding or leather driving glove

- MIG Welding Fundamentals
-
Learn and practice all aspects of MIG welding in a hands-on environment using professional equipment. MIG welding is typically used with steel and is one of the easier welding processes to learn quickly. You will be shown how to set up and break down the machine and weld in all positions. This course is a great introduction for community members interested in exploring process-based welding and professionals that want hands-on experience in process-based welding. Participants must complete the Introduction to Process-Based Welding course before registering for this course. Introduction to MIG Welding can be taken as many times as the participant finds helpful.
What we are going to cover in this classroom:
• GMAW/FCAW machine overview/review
What we are going to do hands on in shop:
Machine setup and breakdown of welder Changing gas
Setting up MIG gun GMAW fillet welds
• Flat
• Horizontal
• Vertical
• Overhead FCAW fillet welds
• Flat
• Horizontal
• Vertical
• Overhead
GMAW/FCAW groove welds (time permitted)
Note: Materials are included in the price of this course; however, participants are required to bring their own gear. Here is the list of required equipment that students must bring with them to the Stick Welding class:
Everything that they used in the Introduction to Process-based welding
Welpers or wire cutters
Welding helmet
MIG style gloves

- TIG Welding Fundamentals
-
Learn and practice all aspects of TIG welding in a hands-on environment using professional equipment. TIG welding is typically used for precise and clean welds. Commonly used on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. This course is a great introduction for community members interested in exploring process-based welding and professionals that want hands-on experience in process-based welding. Participants must complete the Introduction to Process-Based Welding course before registering for this course. Introduction to TIG Welding can be taken as many times as the participant finds helpful. In the classroom, we will cover a GTAW machine overview/review.
What we will do hands-on in the shop:
- Machine setup and breakdown of welder
- Changing gas
- GTAW fillet welds- cold rolled carbon steel
- Flat
- Horizontal
- Vertical
- Overhead
- GTAW groove welds- cold rolled carbon steel
- Flat
- Horizontal
- Vertical
- Overhead
Note: Materials are included in the price of this course; however, participants are required to bring their own gear (including 3/32 tungsten). Here is the list of required equipment that students must bring with them to the TIG Welding class:
- Everything that they used in the Introduction to Process-Based Welding class
- Welpers or wire cutters
- Welding helmet
- TIG style gloves
- 3/32 2% Ceriated Tungsten (grey)
